This candle was made in reverence and honor of the Mother's (Iyami). According to our elders the word Ìyámi means "my mother". Iya means (Mother) In Yoruba West African language culture. The mother's roles as the force of creation and the sustainer of life and existence elevates her to the realm of the infinite divine. The word Ìyámi -in tones becomes Ìyààmi or Ìyàmi, which can be translated as "the super-powerful ones" or "My Mysterious Mother. Iyami Aje are known by many praise names which include, but are not limited to, Iyami Osoronga, Awon Iya Wa (Our Mothers), Eleye (Owner(s) of the Sacred Bird) Iya Iyami, Egbe Iyalode Oshun, Iyemoja Oya etc . The Iyami according to our elders are neutral forces, meaning they can work for the positive or the negative. For example, like all mothers they can show a harsh side and a loving side. We never want to offend the physical or spiritual Ori (head) of our Mothers, Wives, Sisters , Daughters, we must always strive to show respect and good character. This is because as a mother you naturally possess the basic access or means to connect to the Iyami (Aje)/Ase power good or bad. However much discipline is required, this is why we need our conduits and observe Orisha activities or prayer Ose days to help balance out these forces. In addition, another reason why many people undergo hardships because they may avoid the essence of respect or humility towards there physical mothers of their own ancestral lineage. Aje in the spiritual realm, is an unseen invisible power associated with the all seeing eyes. You may encounter elderly women with markings under their eyes. All Aje can see into many worlds and realms. Aje is also a power that is natural feminine Power; only transferred from mother to daughter, this is taught by our elders. It is said by our elders that even the crown of an Oba A King suggests that us of the birds (Eyele) that represents the Iyami are a great part to the sanctification of the monarchy. In the Odu Ose Tura our elders express from mouth to ear that Oshun was the head of the Iyami and gave birth to Esu that bridged the gap and brought harmony for the female empowerment movement of women being respected by men. If you have a wife, daughter, sister, friend, we must strive to always honour and elevate the mother inherited within her. Supporting, encouraging motherhood force that is to become for the future and next generations. Once you cross into motherhood all children become your own. As our elders say " It takes a village to raise a child". There is nothing we cannot do without our physical and spiritual mothers Oshun' healing waters is the primordial waters that protect every child in the womb of the mother. Iyemoja is the great mother of the world and ocean that protects the earth. Oya is the warrior winds that push forth the powerful revolutionary changes that as a women we have to undergo, Oya rebuilds our foundation with revolution and change. We give thanks to the Mother's Asé wa!
